A Sweet Night at Progress Place brings the community together through apple crisp, music, and community gathering.
October 7, we welcomed more than 120 people to our first Apple Crisp Social at Progress Place. From 6 to 8 p.m., our space was full of friendly faces, good food, and lots of community spirit. Five wonderful local vendors joined us: Surprising Binz, The Green Whisk by Rae Cookie Co., Han-Made, Lacelyn Farm, and the Prescott Group and Club Inclusion Pop-Up Shop. Lyndsey Barnes from Lacelyn Farm said, “It was great to bring the community together while supporting an amazing nonprofit organization.”
For $10, guests enjoyed a drink and a gluten-free apple crisp made by North End Baking Co. with apples from Lacelyn Farm. Christopher Yeadon shared, “I had fun. It was nice to see my friends. I got to pick my own pumpkin, and I’m going to paint it with my mom.” Leona Burkey filled the space with music as people shopped, chatted, and enjoyed time together. We also held a 50/50 raffle. Sarah, one of our participants, had a great time selling tickets and announcing the winner. Melissa Keats, who recently moved to Nova Scotia, said, “I didn’t know such an accessible place existed downtown. I hope they keep having events like this one.”

Days like this remind us how special it is to come together. Progress Place is proud to be a community hub in the heart of Halifax. We loved seeing local vendors share their products, and our participants proudly showed off their handmade work. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so much fun. We can’t wait to do it again and keep bringing our community together!
