Built for belonging

What ‘community hub’ means to us

For us here at Prescott and Club Inclusion, community hubs are the places where people come together – to connect with each other, with activities, and with the wider community. They are welcoming, accessible spaces that act as a base for everyday life.

What makes our hubs different is that they are shaped by the people who use them. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities bring their first-voice expertise to the design, feel, and purpose of each space.

Our members have helped create and guide spaces like Progress Place, Club Inclusion, and Club Dartmouth. At our newest hub, Progress Place, everything from colour and lighting to walkways and sound has been influenced by our community’s input. You feel it as soon as you walk in – a sense of warmth, belonging, and a genuine welcome.

Accessibility in these spaces goes beyond physical design. These are spaces where people don’t have to ‘mask’ – where you can be yourself, have a say, and help shape what happens. They are trauma-informed, easy to navigate, and include quiet and sensory-friendly areas.

Community hubs are spaces of possibility – where you can meet new people, build confidence, and take the next step into community life.

Progress Place

Progress Place is Prescott Group’s community hub in downtown Halifax – a space created to bring people into the heart of city life, with easy access to local amenities and opportunities.

Designed with, and for, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, it is a welcoming, barrier-free space where you can feel comfortable the moment you arrive. Natural light, thoughtful design, and accessible features create an environment that is easy to move through and spend time in.

Club Inclusion

Club Inclusion brings people together through social, recreational and community-based activities. Our activities are designed by our members – look out for a lively, fun environment, where you can meet teens and adults who enjoy living life to the full!

How community spaces make an impact

Built for Belonging

Every detail is designed to remove barriers and create a space where people feel ownership, inclusion, and connection.

Building connections

These spaces bring people together – creating friendships, natural supports, and stronger connections to the wider community, alongside access to the services people need.

Fostering independence

Familiar, easy-to-navigate environments reduce stress and uncertainty – giving people the confidence, stability, and energy to try new things and take risks

Opportunities to participate

People can take part in their own way, at their own pace – joining activities, contributing ideas, and enjoying meaningful experiences when and how it works for them.
