Showcasing talent, building confidence, and strengthening community

Our recent pop-up shop at Halifax Shopping Centre was more than just a retail event—it was a celebration of skill, growth, and inclusion. This fantastic opportunity allowed our participant employees to step into a busy retail setting, gaining hands-on experience while proudly showcasing their talents to the community.

Building connections and confidence

Throughout the month of December, our team members with IDDs honed essential skills in customer service, cash handling, inventory management, and merchandising in this busy mall. More importantly, they built confidence, engaged with a wide array of shoppers, and tackled real-world challenges with enthusiasm and professionalism. The energy and dedication they brought to every interaction were truly inspiring.

“It was a great experience for me. Operating a pop-up shop in a different location. I enjoyed work with the customers. It was a really happy atmosphere. The event was low stress due to the amazing customers” Sarah Holesworth

“I was proud.” said new employee Alfie McCarthy “I love serving customers and making them smile.”

Inclusive opportunities

Beyond skill-building, the pop-up shop helped highlight the immense value and capability of inclusive employment. Seeing our participants shine in such a dynamic space was a powerful reminder of why opportunities like this matter—not just for individual’s professional development, but for fostering a more inclusive and supportive community.

A heartfelt thank you to Stephanie Schnare from Halifax Shopping Centre for her support and collaboration. Her dedication helped create a welcoming, accessible space where our team could truly thrive.

“It brought me so much joy to work at the Pop-up shop. I was able to serve customers. I loved the social aspect and it made me feel connected to my community. I loved seeing people supporting us. Seeing people, I knew was extra special to me, knowing how proud they were of me. I was very impressed with my items (from the entrepreneurial program) that sold at the pop-up shop and getting the feedback was amazing. We should definitely do it AGAIN! ” shared Gaby McNeil.

We are grateful for this experience and the incredible encouragement from our community. Here’s to more opportunities, more growth, and more moments of success!
