Celebrating a Decade of Harmony: Reflecting on 10 Years of the Inclusive Choir at Grace United Church
It’s hard to believe that a decade has passed since the Inclusive Choir first graced the stage at Grace United Church Hall in Dartmouth. What began as a simple idea has blossomed into a vibrant community of voices, blending together in a beautiful symphony of song. As we mark this special anniversary, we’re thrilled to look back on the journey and the incredible people who have made this choir so special.
Under the passionate and dedicated direction of Adam Johnson, our choir has grown into a rich tapestry of musical styles and voices. From folk tunes to Disney classics and pop hits, our repertoire reflects a wide range of musical tastes and traditions. But what truly makes our choir unique is the diverse array of voices that come together each Sunday afternoon. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or someone who just loves to make music, there’s a place for you in our choir.
One of the most remarkable aspects of our choir is its inclusivity. We warmly welcome individuals from all walks of life—whether you have a disability or not, everyone who loves to sing finds a home with us. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of performing at various festivals, concerts, and performance venues across Halifax. Each performance is a testament to the collective spirit and talent of our members.
Our journey would not have been possible without the vision and dedication of Dr Brian Hennan, who, along with Adam Johnson and Alice Evans, was instrumental in founding the choir ten years ago. Their commitment to creating an inclusive space for music and community has been the driving force behind our success. Adam’s leadership has been nothing short of transformative, taking the choir from strength to strength and ensuring that our music continues to touch hearts and bring joy. We are also extremely grateful to the United Way of Halifax and the Parish of Grace United Church, for the financial and operational support to make the vision a reality.
Throughout these ten years, we’ve had some incredible milestones, including appearances on television and numerous celebrations of our achievements. One of our favorite traditions is singing the Canadian national anthem, a moment that never fails to fill our hearts with pride and joy.
As we celebrate this decade of music, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. Your enthusiasm, talent, and dedication have made the Inclusive Choir a cherished part of our community. Here’s to many more years of song, laughter, and shared experiences. We can’t wait to see where the next decade takes us!
Thank you for being a part of our story. Here’s to the music, the memories, and the magic that brings us all together.
